The Opportunity
The Executive Director plays a pivotal role in supporting the Police Commission in fulfilling their oversight and governance responsibilities. As the most senior position reporting to the Commission, the Executive Director ensures the effective management of the Commissions office and the administration of all business matters.
This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic leader with expertise in governance, policy development, and stakeholder engagement. The Executive Director will provide high-level advice to the Commission, oversee correspondence and reporting, manage work plans and budgets, and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and legislative requirements. Additionally, the role involves liaising with external consultants, stakeholders, and law enforcement agencies.

Responsibilities
- Attend all Commission/Committee meetings, including open, closed, and in-camera sessions.
- Provide expert advice on governance, oversight, ethics, policy, and legislative compliance under the Police Act, RCMP Act, and the Municipal Police Services Agreement (MPSA).
- Liaise with law enforcement agencies, government bodies, legal counsel, media, and the public to foster communication and cooperation.
- Oversee policy analysis, research, and reporting to support informed decision-making.
- Lead the Commission’s strategic and annual planning processes, ensuring progress on priorities.
- Manage the Commission office operations, projects, and budget administration.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and external communication strategies.
- Keep the Commission informed on best practices in civilian police oversight and relevant legislative updates.
- Organize orientation, training, and development opportunities for Commission members.
- Serve as the FOIPP Coordinator to ensure compliance with privacy legislation.
You Bring
- A bachelor’s degree in public administration, Business Administration or equivalency and five (5) years of progressive experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Hours
40 Hours per week, which will require some evenings and weekends.
Compensation
The starting hourly wage for this position is $50.31 per hour, and may increase based on experience and qualifications.
