Grande Prairie Police Service

The Grande Prairie Police Service (GPPS) is a conceptual re-thinking of the traditional policing model tailormade to address the concerns and issues in the city of Grande Prairie. Using a tiered approach, GPPS integrates policing, municipal enforcement, and mental health and addiction services into one team led by Chief of Police, Dwayne Lakusta.

GPPS is driven by its core values of integrity, community, respect, service (responsiveness), accountability, and innovation. These core values reflect their commitment to responsive, community-focused policing, progressive practices and values, and improving the safety and wellbeing of all citizens in Grande Prairie.

The Grande Prairie Police Service is a “made-in-Grande Prairie” solution committed to being a collaborative and respectful community partner with a solutions-oriented approach. At full capacity, GPPS will employ up to 110 officers, 27 peace officers, and more than 50 civilian support staff and will have specialty sections like bike patrol, Police Dog Services, tactical, serious crimes, forensic identification, drone operation, community engagement, school resource, and ALERT to address drugs and organized crime.
