Meeting Highlights - April 18, 2024

Commission Logo

The Commission was presented with 4 logo options from the Logo Committee. The Committee made a recommendation to the Commission on their preference.  Commission members unanimously supported the Committee’s recommendation but would also like to see an option that will work well in smaller promotion items such as pins.  The Logo Committee will bring options back to the next meeting.

Grande Prairie Police Service Transition Update

Chief Lakusta was pleased to report that the police service’s first female member was sworn in on April 9th.  Constable Tunke comes to Grande Prairie Police Service (GPPS) with several years of experience from Edmonton Police Service and is the service’s first indigenous member.  The new uniforms and first 2 GPPS vehicles were unveiled this week.  GPPS made the move into their new offices at Cedar Point. Cedar Point now houses members of the Police Service, Municipal Enforcement as well as Mobile Outreach.

Training Opportunities

Commission members have the opportunity to take part in City of Grande Prairie provided Unconscious Bias and Addressing Discrimination and Racism training with the first Experienced Officer class.  These training sessions will eventually be part of the Commission’s Training and Professional Development Plan being developed through their new Strategic Plan.
